Statement of Purpose

The American Spaniel Club Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit charitable corporation, which qualified as a nonprofit corporation under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code of 1986 under IRS letter 1045 dated August 16, 1999 . This letter permitted the ASC Foundation, Inc. to be treated as a publicly supported organization as described in Sections 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(vi) under an Advance Ruling Period from August 16, 1999 to October 31, 2001, at which time a final determination will be made. A copy of the IRS letter 1045 is available from the Foundation upon request.

Statement of Purpose: As detailed within the ASC Foundation, Inc. Bylaws, Article II, Section 3, the purposes of the Corporation is to:

*Foster and promote knowledge on the part of the general public of dogs in general, Flushing Spaniels and Cocker Spaniels in particular;

*Further the understanding of the diseases, genetic anomalies and injuries that affect dogs, Flushing Spaniels and Cocker Spaniels in particular;

*Support and promote the study of the character, history, genetics, breeding and related characteristics that establish the Cocker Spaniel as a distinct breed of dog;

*Develop and make available information concerning the proper care, treatment, breeding, health and training of Cocker Spaniels;

*Contribute to educational programs, veterinary research and other research in furtherance of the purposes above;

*Support, engage in, advance and promote the rescue of Cocker Spaniels;

*Engage in, advance, promote and administer charitable, scientific and educational activities and projects of every kind and nature whatsoever in its own behalf or as the agent, trustee or representative of others, and may act and assist and contribute to the support of corporations, associations and institutions which are organized and operated exclusively for such purposes and which are described in Section 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; and

*To do all things in furtherance of the items above or in any way related to dogs, Flushing Spaniels and Cocker Spaniels as may be legally permissible and in keeping with the tax-exempt status of the Corporation.

The Board of Directors operate the Foundation through a four person Executive Committee comprised of an Executive Director, and the Chairs of the Finance, Grant, and Fund Raising Committees. In addition, the work of the Foundation is completed through three standing or working committees. These committees are:

  • Public Education/General Welfare Committee
  • Scientific Research Committee
  • Rescue Committee
